Avon Valley Country Park
Avon Valley Country Park is situated just 4.5 miles out of the centre of Bristol. It is set within the Avon Valley. To get there, take the A4 and turn off near Keynsham, head along along Pixash Lane to the park. The park opens up at the start of spring and stays open until autumn, opening hours are 10am-6pm, Mondays-Sundays. But, remember that it closes for bank holidays.
However, at the moment there are some heated concerns regarding the park and the development of a nearby airport. Stopavonvalleyairport.org.uk has been launch to challenge the development, but also to inform citizens about both sides of the argument. After all, an argument is never convincing if only one side is aired.
The park was initially designed to be a riverside nature trail. There are well marked numbered signs to inform visitors about the different wildlife in the area, including ; birds, animals and plants. If the airport expansion goes ahead, Avon Valley Country Park may lose some of its friendly and unusual animals.
Avon Valley Country Park has Shetland Ponies, Shire Horses, Fallow Deer, Llama, Donkeys, Wallabies and many types of Sheep, Goat and general Cattle. There are varieties of wildfowl and ducks too. Some of these animals are now considered rare or exotic and so a compound was created to protect them, along with a pets corner for kids.
Stopavonvalleyairport.org.uk wants to see all these animals live on for future generations to enjoy, along with the many activities here. Activities include free rowing boat sessions, river boat trips, fishing areas and a large outdoor adventure playground. The playground has chain walkways, a bouncy castle, aerial runways, a ball pond and a massive sheer drop slide.
